7.2 女娲秘史 Secret History of Nuwa

 

第二天上午，为了认路，梁山伯（又名伏羲，谷神，燃灯佛）领着法海回自己家。路上，他问法海：“舅舅，您怎么到鄮县来了？”

The next morning, to familiarize with the route, Shanbo Liang (aka. Fuxi, Grain God, and Lamplighter Buddha) led Fa Hai (Law-sea) back to his home. Along the way, he asked Law-sea, “Uncle, what brings you to Mao County?”

法海回答：“我来拜访我的师弟怀海，他刚好不在家。我遇到了强盗，钱财全被抢光了。又淋了雨，我就来难民营了。没想到，我就病了。幸亏遇见了你，否则我就不在这个世界上了。”

也有传说，这是法海和怀海超渡梁山伯成佛的计策。

Law-sea replied, “I came to visit my disciple-brother Huai Hai (Bosom-sea), but he happened to be away. I encountered bandits who robbed me of all my money. Then I got caught in the rain, so I came to the refugee camp. Unexpectedly, I fell ill. Thankfully I met you; otherwise, I wouldn't be in this world anymore.”

There is also a legend that this was a scheme devised by Law-sea and Bosom-sea to ferry Shanbo Liang attain Buddhahood.

进屋后，梁山伯发现大女儿虞姬正闲在家里，惊奇地问：“你为什么没上学？”

虞姬不高兴地回答：“我不喜欢和那些小孩子一起玩。” 说着，她满脸气愤地出去了，还叨咕着：“我去找文官和刺客，两位叔叔玩去！”

Upon entering the house, Shanbo Liang found his eldest daughter Yuji (Muse) idling around the house and asked in surprise, “Why aren't you in school?”

Muse replied unhappily, “I don't like to play with those kids.” With that, she went out with a face full of anger and muttered, “I'll go and play with Literary-Official and Assassin, the two uncles!”

梁山伯尴尬地对舅舅说：“她妈不常在家；这孩子让我给惯坏了！”

法海回答：“刚才我盯着她看，她就不高兴了。她长得很像她妈，不像你。她是你的女儿吗？”

Shanbo Liang awkwardly said to his uncle, “Her mother isn't always home; this child has let me spoil her!”

Law-Sea replied, “She got upset when I stared at her just now. She looks like her mom, not like you. Is she your daughter?”

梁山伯惊讶了，回答：“你见过你侄儿媳妇，马文才！十年前我就怀疑过她是否是我的女儿？那时我还年青。那次马文才半年没回家；她回来时就抱着虞姬。我就怀疑了，问，你什么时候怀孕了？我怎么不知道！？”

“她回答，上次回来时，我告诉你了。那时，我就已经怀孕三个月了！”

Shanbo Liang was surprised and replied, “You've seen your nephew-in-law, Wencai Ma! Ten years ago, I wondered if she was my daughter. I was still young then. On that occasion Wencai Ma did not come home for half a year; when she came back, she was holding Muse. I got suspicious and asked, “When did you get pregnant? How come I didn't know!?”

“I told you when I came back last time”, she replied. “By then, I was three months pregnant!”

梁山伯继续说：“随后我就注意了！后面的两个孩子，她也是在外面生的（注1），但都是我的儿子。这个女儿，可能也是我的，但我记不清了。我感觉她可能是在她怀孕三个月时告诉我了。这可不行！舅舅你自己坐一会儿，我去找虞姬回来向你道歉！”

Shanbo Liang continued, “Then I paid attention! The two children that followed, she also gave birth to outside (note 1), but they were both my sons. This daughter may also be mine, but I can't remember. I have a feeling she may have told me when she was in her third trimester. That's not good! Uncle, sit by yourself for a while, I'll go find Muse and come back to apologize to you!”

注1，女娲的传统，女儿必须在王宫里出生才有王位继承权；所以女娲家的女人都回娘家生孩子。但是读者可别误会，本文的佛可不是女娲回娘家的路上在无忧树下生的，而是女娲造出了佛。也就是说女娲把他的丈夫变成了佛；他们俩一起成人了。（注，凡人是假人。）

Note 1: According to tradition, a daughter of Nüwa could only inherit the throne if she was born in the royal palace; therefore, the women of Nüwa’s family would return to their parents’ homes to give birth. However, readers should not be misled: the Buddha mentioned in this text was not born under the Nothing-to-Worry-about Tree while Nüwa was on her way back to her parents’ home but rather was created by Nüwa herself. In other words, Nuwa turned her husband into a Buddha; the two of them attained humans together. (Note, mortals are fake humans.)

梁山伯刚走出屋门，就遇见虞姬带着文官和刺客，这两个官差回来了。虞姬向梁山伯请求允许她骑马去县城东郊的难民营看看，还生气地告状说：“他们俩一起骗我！难民营怎么可能盈利呢！我要去看看！”

Shanbo Liang had just stepped out of his house when he met Muse returning with Literary-Official and Assassin, both of whom were officials. Muse asked Shanbo Liang for permission to ride to the refugee camp in the eastern suburb of the county to have a look, and angrily complained, “They lied to me together! How can a refugee camp be profitable! I want to go and have a look!”

梁山伯生气地训斥她：“那你就跟着他们俩，自己去看吧！不过，你这么对这两位年青的叔叔说话，很没礼貌！刚才，你对我舅舅也很没礼貌。你的相貌模糊（注，女神是人脑中默认的女人，没有外貌特征），别人看不清，多看你几眼，这很正常。你不应该为这事生气，更何况那人是我的舅舅，你的舅爷。下次，你再见到他时，你要向他道歉！若不然，这事我和你没完！”

Shanbo Liang angrily reprimanded her, “Then you can follow them and see for yourself! However, it's very rude of you to speak to these two young uncles like that! Just now, you were also rude to my uncle. It's normal for people to look at you a few more times because you have a vague appearance (note, a goddess is a default woman in mind mechanism, trait-less) and others can't see it. You shouldn't be angry about this, not to mention that that person is my uncle, your uncle-grandpa. Next time, when you see him again, you must apologize to him! If not, I won't be done with you for this!”

梁山伯转脸对他的这两位下属官差说：“那你们就早些去吧，到那儿吃中午饭。别麻烦人家了，我给你们钱去那儿附近的饭店吃午饭。另外，我请你们俩帮我给她讲清楚亲戚和礼貌。她刚才对我舅舅无礼了，我很生气！”

Shanbo Liang turned his face to the two subordinate officials and said, “Then you guys should go early and have your noon meal there. Don't bother others, I'll give you money to have lunch at a restaurant near there. Also, I'd like both of you to explain to her about family and manners—she was rude to my uncle just now, and I'm really upset.

文官和刺客是两位会稽县官差培训班毕业的学生，和梁山伯是同乡，刚到鄮县工作不久。因为梁山伯更改了民政局的支出计划，得罪了很多人，许多同事避免与他共事。只有这两个新来的官差任劳任怨地帮助梁山伯，所以虞姬喜欢他们俩。其中名叫刺客的官差是后文第13章《大禹治水》故事中的重要人物。

Literary-Official and Assassin were two recent graduates of the Huiji County government service program. They were fellow townsmen of Shanbo Liang and had only recently begun working in Mao County. Because Shanbo Liang had altered the Civil Affairs Bureau's expenditure plan, he had offended many people, and many colleagues avoided working with him. Only these two new officials diligently helped Shanbo Liang, which is why Muse liked them. The official named Assassin is an important character in the later story of Chapter 13 "Yu’s Water Treatment."

3. 龙蛇家族的秘密 Secrets of the Dragon and Snake Families

法海开始为梁山伯讲述女娲家族的历史，说：“现在夏国的国王蔻珠和我源自同一家族，都源自姑苏（江苏省苏州市）的吴国。四百年前，我们吴国的公主虞，化名白素贞，去杭州西湖游玩，喜欢上了许仙，就有了《白蛇传》（注3）。当时我们吴国同意她去杭州发展女娲教。白素贞很能干，她去杭州不到20年（约在公元前2070年）就建立了夏国。100年前，夏国征服了我们宗主国，吴国，我们就成为了夏国的政治犯。”

Law-Sea began to recount the history of Nuwa's family for Shanbo Liang, saying: "The current ruler of Xia Kingdom, Kouzhu, and I share the same ancestral lineage, both tracing back to the Wu Kingdom of Gusu (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province). Four hundred years ago, Yu (虞), the princess of our Wu Kingdom, took the pseudonym Suzhen Bai and went to visit West Lake in Hangzhou. There, she fell in love with Xu’xian, and thus the story of *The Legend of the White Snake* (Note 3) began. At that time, our state of Wu permitted her to go to Hangzhou to spread Nüwa religion. Suzhen Bai was highly capable; within less than 20 years of her arrival in Hangzhou, she established the State of Xia (around 2070 BCE). One hundred years ago, the State of Xia conquered our suzerain state, Wu, and we became political prisoners of the State of Xia.”

注3，白蛇传讲述在杭州西湖的断桥上白素贞遇见了许仙。白素贞偷走了许仙的心（如图3）。白素贞是玉女，夏娃；许仙是金童，亚当。后来他们俩成为了伏羲和女娲（如图5）。本书中的梁山伯和祝英台是一个完整的女娲造人的故事，所以就没必要讲解白蛇传了。女娲造人和上帝造人的道理相同，但故事不一样。图4显示埃及夏娃为亚当下蛊，征服了亚当。女娲造人和夏娃造人是同样的道理，只是女娲担任了上帝和夏娃两个角色。

Note 3: The Legend of the White Snake tells the story of Suzhen Bai meeting Xu Xian on the Broken Bridge at West Lake in Hangzhou. Suzhen Bai stole Xu Xian’s heart (see Figure 3). Suzhen Bai is a Jade Girl, an Eve; Xu Xian is a Gold Boy, an Adam. Later, the two became Nuwa and Fuxi (see Figure 5). The story of Shanbo Liang and Yingtai Zhu in this book is a complete account of Nüwa creating humanity, so there is no need to explain The Legend of the White Snake. The principle behind Nüwa’s creation of humanity is the same as that of God’s creation of humanity, though the stories differ. Figure 4 shows the Egyptian Eve casting a spell on Adam to conquer him. Nüwa’s creation of humanity follows the same principle as Eve’s, except that Nüwa plays both the roles of God and Eve.

法海继续说： “我爷爷那辈人都成为了夏国的政治犯，被限制不准离开姑苏。比如你舅舅我，我到姑苏以外的地区探亲访友，最多离开姑苏三个月。我们家的人被限制在姑苏是因为我们知道我们 ‘龙蛇家族’ 的秘密。这个秘密与你和你爸爸现在患的病有关。”

Law-Sea continued, “People of my grandfather’s generation were all labeled political prisoners by the Xia Dynasty and barred from leaving Gusu. Take me, your uncle, for example: when I travel outside Gusu to visit relatives or friends, I’m allowed to be away for no more than three months. Our family is confined to Gusu because we know the secret of the ‘Dragon-Snake Clan.’ This secret is connected to the illness that you and your father are currently suffering from.”

 

法海说： “原因是我们家的女人都喜欢金童（参见9.9《三位一体》）。你妈妈是一位玉女；你爸爸是我帮她找的金童。你妈妈是一位女神；你这个女儿虞姬也是。她们俩这种相貌，没有外貌特征，接近我们思维机制中默认的女人；也就是我们俗话中说的 ‘心目中人’。她们俩这种人对别人的影响大，容易创伤别人，也就是传说中‘命硬的女人’，‘剋男人的女人’。结果，你爸爸很犟，还有点儿大男子主义，老是和你妈对着干，就冒犯女神了，就生病了。女娲家是皇族，这是她们家的秘密。现在你知道我们的谈话内容是多么地危险了！如果这话被传出去，说这话的人和听着这话的人都可能被处死！你听明白了没？这个秘密不能轻易地对别人说，更不能对小于40岁的人说。所以，你妈妈临死的时候，委托我来告诉你这个秘密，因为这事关系到你的生死和幸福。”

Law-Sea said: “The reason is that the women in our family all prefer ‘Golden Boys’ (see 9.9, Trinity). Your mother is a Jade Girl; your father is a Gold Boy I found for her. Your mother is a goddess; your daughter Muse is one too. With their looks—lacking any distinct physical features—they closely resemble the default image of a woman in our minds; in other words, they are what we colloquially call the ‘ideal woman’. People like them have a profound influence on others and can easily cause other harm; they are the so-called ‘women who bring misfortune to men’. As a result, your father is very stubborn and somewhat chauvinistic; he constantly goes against your mother, thereby offending the goddess, which is why he fell ill. The Nüwa family is of royal blood—this is their family secret. Now you know just how dangerous our conversation is! If this gets out, both the speaker and the listener could face execution! Do you understand? This secret must not be shared lightly with others, and certainly not with anyone under the age of 40. That is why, on her deathbed, your mother entrusted me with telling you this secret—because it concerns your very life and happiness.”

梁山伯立刻回答：“舅舅！我这么大的岁数了，当然懂！我发誓：我不会轻易地和别人说及女娲家族的这个秘密；更不会对年龄小于四十岁的人说。”

Shanbo Liang immediately replied: "Uncle! I am so old, of course I know! I swear I will not easily tell others about this secret of Nuwa family, let alone anyone under the age of 40."

法海继续说：“十年前，你和马文才相亲的时候，当你妈得知马文才跟随了她妈家的姓，就怀疑她是母系氏族的女人。但是，当你爸爸听说马文才有个哥哥在鄮县做官，就同意了。你妈妈不愿意和你爸爸争吵，害怕会创伤你爸爸，就不说话了。那时候，她不放心，对我叨咕这事。我就到你和马文才在上虞区的家看了。我一眼就认出了马文才是个修行了千年的白蛇妖。那时候，我就来鄮县这里来看祝英台了，他是一条修行了五百年的青蛇。马文才和祝英台是同一个人。我回去之后就把我的观察结果告诉你妈了。你妈回答，‘那现在这事，就只有把梁山伯给她，祝他们俩百年好和了！’”

Law-Sea continued, "Ten years ago, when you and Wencai Ma were dating, your mother suspected that she was a woman from a matrilineal clan when she learned that Wencai Ma had taken her mother's surname. However, when your father heard that Wencai Ma had a brother who was an official in Mao County, he agreed. Your mother didn't want to argue with your father, because she was afraid that it would hurt your father, so she stopped talking. At that time, she was worried and kept mumbling to me about it. I went to your Wencai Ma’s home in Shangyu District to see it. I recognized briefly that Wencai Ma was a white snake demoness who had practiced for a thousand years. At that time, I came to Mao County to see Yingtai Zhu, who was a turquoise snake who had practiced for five hundred years. Wencai Ma and Yingtai Zhu are one same woman. After I came back, I told your mother about my observations. Your mother replied, 'Now the only way to deal with this matter is to give Shanbo Liang to her. I wish them a long and happy life together!'"

法海继续说：“现在，你和马文才的三个孩子都已经这么大了！就应该考虑好好过日子，别和她争吵打架。你顺从她了，就和她没有矛盾了，你就不会生病了。另外，马文才帮你找的这份工作挺好！你天天做善事，布施，就是福。布施与神识（即无意识）的舍性相应，所以说，布施是福。布施会直接治疗你的病。”

Law-Sea continued, "Now, your three children with Wencai Ma are already so big! You should consider living a good life and stop quarrelling and fighting with her. If you obey her, you will have no conflicts with her, and you will not get sick. In addition, the job that Wencai Ma found for you is very good! You do good deeds and donate every day, which is a fortune. Donation corresponds to the nature of renunciation of God-sense (i.e., unconsciousness), so it is said that donation is fortune. Donation will directly cure your illness."

法海的师弟怀海法师听说法海来看他了，就到处找法海，就找到了难民营。正当法海准备返回姑苏的时候，梁山伯收到了父亲病重的消息，想留法海多住几天，在他返回会稽县的时候帮助照看两个小儿子。

法海回答：“我已经离开姑苏三个月了，现在回去解释一下，问题不大。如果我离开姑苏的时间超过三个月太多了，我可能就有麻烦了。”

When Law-Sea's disciple-brother, Juristic Teacher Bosom-Sea, heard that Law-Sea had come to see him, he searched for Law-Sea everywhere, and found his way to the refugee camp. Just as Law-Sea was about to return to Gusu, Shanbo Liang received the news that his father was seriously ill and wanted to keep Law-Sea for a few more days to help look after his two young sons while he returned to Huiji County.

Law-Sea replied, “I've been away from Gusu for three months, but it's not a big problem for me to go back and explain now. If I have been away from Gusu for too much longer than three months, I may be in trouble.”

这时，县长来了，得知梁山伯和法海的难处后，对梁山伯说：“你孩子的教育是个问题。我想成立个学校，以方便于所有家里有小孩子的政府官员。另外，如果法海师傅同意，我可以给姑苏负责监管宗人府的官员写信，把他外出的期限改为三年。”

At that time, the prefect of the county came and after learning about the difficulties of Shanbo Liang and Law-Sea, he said to Shanbo Liang, “Your children's education is a problem. I want to set up a school for the convenience of all government officials who have small children at home. Also, if Juristic Teacher Law-Sea agrees, I can write a letter to the official of the Clan House in Gusu to change the period of his going out to three years.”

法海听后，没出声。梁山伯说：“我舅舅是得道的高僧，知道什么该说，什么不该说。他也深知他的行为会牵连到我和我的孩子，不会做出有害于朝廷尊严的言行。外出的期限能改成三年当然好了，以后我舅舅出门在外就不用担心超过期限了。”

Law-Sea didn't make a sound after hearing this. Shanbo Liang said: “My uncle is an enlightened high monk and knows what to say and what not to say. He also knows very well that his behavior will implicate me and my children and will not make words or actions that are harmful to the dignity of the royal family. It is certainly good that the period of going out can be changed to three years, so that in the future my uncle won't have to worry about going out beyond that period.”

县长回答：“我和宗人府主管江苏省的官员是典兵学院的同学，办这事不成问题；但还是得法海师傅同意才行。”

法海回答：“如果办这事不给县长带来很大的麻烦，我同意。”

The prefect replied, “The official in charge of Jiangsu Province in the Clan House and I were classmates at Codex Soldier Academy, so it will not be a problem to do this; but still, Juristic Teacher Law-Sea must give his consent for it to be done.”

Law-Sea replied, “If doing this doesn't cause the prefect a great deal of trouble, I agree.”

法海向梁山伯解释他爸爸的病，说：“你爸爸的病因，和你类似，源自和你妈妈的积怨。那些心理矛盾是他的心理疾病。他的胃肠溃疡，皮肤病，和风湿症等疾病是由心理疾病引起的。治疗的办法是消除心理矛盾。这些纠纷你妈妈早就知道，让我给你爸爸解释明白；可我没能力给你爸爸讲清楚。你妈妈临终时还委托我开导你爸爸。你妈妈曾委托我办过两件事，我都没能给你爸爸讲解明白。后来你妈妈又告诉了我三件事，她担心你爸爸想不开。”

Law-Sea began to explain his father's illness to Shanbo Liang, saying, “The cause of your father's illness, like yours, stems from the accumulated grudges with your mother. Those psychological conflicts are his mental illnesses. His gastrointestinal ulcers, skin diseases, and rheumatism were caused by psychological diseases. The cure is to eliminate psychological conflicts. Your mother knew about these disputes and asked me to explain them to your father; but I could not explain them clearly to your father. Your mother also entrusted me to guide your father when she was dying. Your mother had entrusted me with two affairs, both of which I was unable to explain to your father. Then your mom told me three more affairs; she was worried that your dad couldn't think straight.”

法海对梁山伯叙述了他爸妈的矛盾后说：“这些事你妈从来没怨恨过你爸，因为她知道你爸爸不懂。你给你爸爸解释清楚了，他的心结就解开了，心病就好了，身体上的病也会大部分痊愈。还有，你让你爸爸领着你去给你妈上坟。因为你妈妈的女神外貌很容易被遗忘。你爸爸忘记了你妈妈的形象后，记忆就混淆了，是他生病的另外一个原因。你和他一起拜祭你妈妈的坟，会更新你妈妈在你爸爸心中的形象，对他的健康有好处。因为神识（即无意识）只接受现量，这件事中，是你爸爸自身的行为在治疗着你爸爸的病。”

After recounting his parents' conflicts to Shanbo Liang, Law-Sea said, “Your mom has never resented your dad for these affairs because she knows your dad doesn't understand. If you explain it clearly to your father, his heart tie will be untied, his mental illness will be cured, and most of his physical sickness will be cured. Also, you ask your dad to lead you to your mom's grave. Because your mom's goddess appearance is easily forgotten. Your dad's memory is confusing when he forgets your mom's image, which is another reason why he is sick. By visiting your mom's grave with him, you will renew your mom's image in your dad's mind, which will be good for his health. Because God-sense (i.e., the unconscious) only accepts the present quantity, it is your dad's own behaviors in this case that is healing your dad's illness.”
